Part-Time Porter

Department: Porter
Location: Brockville, ON

POSITION:   Porter

COMPETITION:  2026-193(Existing)

STATUS: Part-Time

Department: Portering

Salary: $25.01 to $26.74/hour

HOURS OF WORK: 1300-2100/0700-1900/1900-0700/1100-1900 Including weekends and holidays

 (hours subject to change based on operational needs)

Union Association: CUPE

 

Position Summary:

The Porter is responsible for assisting and transporting patients and materials throughout all areas of the Hospital as directed.  The Porter duties include transporting patients for diagnostic tests and in between in-patient units, transporting specimens, equipment and mail within the Hospital and stocking and delivering linen supplies.   The focus of the Porter is on performing safe work practices and high quality work and providing excellent customer service.

The Porter participates in in-services and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

 

Requirements:

 

Education, Experience, Specific Training:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  • WHMIS training

 

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with patients, visitors, staff and volunteers
  • Good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and ability to establish priorities
  • Must have physical ability to perform all tasks
  • Work is moderately heavy; involving lifting, considerable walking and standing, bending, pushing and pulling
  • Knowledge of safe lifting practices and ability to utilize lift equipment and/or assistance for heavy lifting when required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to use portable phone
  • Ability to respond to overhead paging
  • Familiar with computer usage (e.g. word processing, email, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Previous related experience an asset
  • Knowledge of the physical layout of the hospital an asset
  • Good attendance and availability required
