Registration and Scheduling Clerk - Registration and Outpatient Scheduling - Temporary Part-Time

Salary:   $22.83 - $27.26

Hours of Work:  7.5 hour day shifts 0600-1400/0700-1500/0800-1600/0830-1630 (Monday to Friday) subject to change based on operational needs

Position Summary:

Working as a member of the Registration and Scheduling team, this role is responsible for utilizing a computerized registration and scheduling system. Often the first point of contact when arranging patient appointments for outpatient clinics registration activities related to the collection, verification and recording of information from outpatients who attend the hospital for appointments for clinics, diagnostic tests or procedures. Schedules and books patient appointments and follow-up appointments which includes booking complex interdisciplinary appointments, adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient and departmental requirements and notifying both patient and clinician, ensuring that appropriate date, time, and location are provided to patients, and placing appointment reminder calls to patients/families.

Participates in department and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of medical terminology certificate.
  • Post-secondary Diploma in Business and Medical Office Administration preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a clerical/administrative capacity required, preferably within a hospital or health care environment
  • Experience in customer service with preference given to individuals who have worked in a medical, health care or hospital environment

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Explorer and Internet
  • Experience with Cerner is an asset
  • Organizational and reception skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with the public and to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, patients and visitors
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and spoken communications
  • Able to work well under pressure, multi-task and ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Able to work a variety of shifts, as necessary, to ensure coverage of Central Registration functions
